A Guide to Mobility Scooter Brands
Choosing a mobility scooter often starts with picking a brand, and the UK market has dozens of them. Some are household names built in British factories. Others are imports from Taiwan, the United States, Israel or mainland Europe that have earned strong UK reputations. A handful are retailer-owned ranges assembled overseas but backed by high-street support.
This guide covers every mobility scooter brand you are likely to encounter when shopping in the UK. For each, we note what they are known for, where their scooters are made, and who they suit best. Where we have reviewed individual models, we have linked to those reviews so you can see how the brand performs in practice.
If you are early in your research, our pavement mobility scooter reviews and roadworthy mobility scooter reviews are good starting points. For something more interactive, try our scooter finder quiz.
A quick note on where mobility scooters are made
Most mobility scooters sold in the UK are manufactured in Taiwan or mainland China, even when the brand name is British. This is not automatically a mark against them. Taiwanese factories such as Pihsiang and Karma Medical Products supply some of the most respected names in the industry, and their quality standards are generally high.
A smaller group of brands manufactures or assembles in the UK. Kymco runs a facility in Wigan. Roma Medical builds in Bridgend, Wales. TGA manufactures in Suffolk. Quingo designs and builds in the UK, as does One Rehab. These brands tend to be slightly more expensive, but British build often brings faster warranty repairs, better parts availability, and a direct line to technical support.
When it matters most is not the country of manufacture but the strength of the UK dealer network. A scooter made in Taiwan by a brand with 200 UK dealers will be easier to repair than a scooter made in Wales by a brand with three. We have noted dealer network strength where relevant in the brand entries below.
Mobility Scooter Brands A-Z
Abilize
Abilize is the house brand of UK retailer CareCo. The range spans lightweight travel scooters to larger pavement models, with prices pitched at the mid-market. Assembled overseas, typically in Taiwan or China, and backed by CareCo’s national showroom network and online presence.
Ableworld
Ableworld is a UK mobility retailer with its own branded range, spanning compact travel scooters to larger roadworthy models. Strong network of high-street stores across Britain, which helps with aftersales and part availability.
CareCo
CareCo is one of the UK’s largest mobility retailers. Alongside its Abilize range, it sells models under the CareCo name including the Adventurer X8 roadworthy scooter and the LiTech lightweight series. Manufacturing is overseas, but CareCo’s showrooms and direct-to-customer logistics make aftersales straightforward.
Di Blasi
Italian manufacturer Di Blasi is unusual in this market: it is better known for folding motorcycles and tricycles, but the R30 mobility scooter applies the same patented folding engineering. The result is a scooter that collapses into a suitcase-sized package with minimal effort. Niche, and priced accordingly.
Drive DeVilbiss / Drive Medical
Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare (often shortened to Drive Medical) is one of the largest global mobility companies. The UK range covers every category, from the ultra-portable AutoFold series to the luxury Royale 4 roadworthy scooter. Manufacturing is spread across multiple international sites. The UK dealer network is extensive, which is a genuine practical advantage.
Eden Mobility
Eden Mobility is a UK retailer with a small branded range, including the Roadmaster roadworthy model. Local showroom presence is stronger in northern England.
eFOLDi
eFOLDi is a British-designed brand specialising in lightweight folding scooters that double as a seat when closed. Manufacturing is in China. The Lite and Explorer models have earned strong reviews for airline-friendly portability. Prices sit at the premium end of the folding category.
Electric Mobility / Rascal
Electric Mobility is a Somerset-based company that designs, imports, and assembles the Rascal range — one of the most recognisable names in UK mobility. The Liteway, Vista, Vortex, and 388 models cover everything from compact travel scooters to premium roadworthy tourers. Some assembly happens in the UK. A wide dealer network makes aftersales straightforward almost anywhere in Britain.
Freerider
Freerider is a global brand with a distribution and assembly hub in Nottingham, England. The range is broad: the Mayfair and Kensington pavement scooters, the FR1 and Kensington S2 roadworthy models, and the Land Ranger all-terrain series. The Luggie folding range also comes out of the Freerider parent company. Strong UK parts and service network.
Golden Technologies
A US brand manufactured in Pennsylvania with a limited UK presence. Scooters tend to be imported rather than locally assembled, which can mean slower parts lead times. Not widely stocked by UK dealers.
Horizon Mobility
Horizon is a British manufacturer based in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, specialising in all-terrain and roadworthy scooters. The Mayan AC and Aztec are proper off-road machines. The Saxon Series 3 is the on-road sibling. Genuinely British-built, with a smaller but loyal dealer network.
Invacare
Invacare is a global healthcare brand with a broad UK scooter range including the Comet, Colibri, and Scorpius. Manufacturing happens across multiple countries. The brand’s strength is in its wider medical equipment range, which makes it popular with dual-purpose users.
Karma Mobility
Karma Mobility is a global manufacturer headquartered in Taiwan, with its UK presence based in Warwickshire. Karma’s scooters are made in Taiwan by Karma Medical Products, a respected OEM that supplies many other brands. Known for solid build quality and competitive pricing.
Kymco Healthcare UK
Kymco is a Taiwanese group better known globally for motorcycles. In the UK it’s known as Kymco Healthcare UK and operates from a manufacturing facility in Wigan, which gives it an unusual combination of overseas scale and British aftersales. The K-Lite range is widely regarded as one of the best pavement scooter platforms in the market, and the Maxi and Midi XLS roadworthy models are strong class 3 contenders.
Luggie
The Luggie brand, produced by Taiwan-based Freerider Corporation, specialises in ultra-compact folding scooters. The fold-into-luggage design is genuinely clever, though the narrow footprint means these are travel scooters rather than everyday pavement workhorses.
Mobie
The Mobie brand specialises in compact and lightweight folding scooters. Parent company Solax Technology Limited manufactures in Taiwan, supplying the Mobie range to multiple UK distributors including Monarch Mobility.
Monarch Mobility
Monarch Mobility is a UK brand based in Nottinghamshire, with some models assembled locally. The range spans folding scooters (Smarti, Mobie Plus), pavement models (Mojo, Vecta), and roadworthy tourers (Vogue Sport, Vogue XL). Solax is the Taiwanese parent for several of the folding models.
Motion Healthcare
Motion Healthcare is a UK-based designer and distributor focused on lightweight, premium-feeling pavement scooters. The Evolite, Airium, and Airscape lines use aircraft-grade aluminium and carbon fibre for exceptional low weight. Manufacturing is partnered overseas.
Moving Life / Atto
Moving Life is an Israeli company that makes the Atto — a scooter famous for folding into a suitcase-style package in under 15 seconds. The Atto Sport version adds performance. Sold through specialist dealers rather than the mass market, and priced accordingly.
One Rehab / Komfi Rider
One Rehab designs and manufactures the Komfi Rider range in the UK. Models include the Illusion pavement scooter, Vogue comfort model, and the Alpha 8 and Parade 8 roadworthy scooters. One of a small handful of genuinely British-built brands in the mid-market.
Pride Mobility
Pride is a US brand with one of the strongest UK market presences of any global manufacturer. The Go Go range is the best-selling portable scooter worldwide. The Apex pavement scooters and Colt roadworthy range cover the mid-market, while the Mini Crosser and Baja Bandit sit at the premium end. Dealer coverage is excellent nationwide.
Quingo
Quingo is a British brand known for its unusual five-wheel design, which is claimed to improve stability on uneven surfaces. Designed and manufactured in the UK. Prices sit at the premium end, and the brand is sold primarily through its own direct channel rather than the wider dealer network.
Roma Medical
Roma Medical is a UK manufacturer based in Bridgend, Wales, producing a wide range under its own name and the Shoprider sub-brand. Models span pavement scooters (Paris, Valencia, Sorrento), roadworthy options (Cordoba, Girona, Perrero) and heavier duty models (Granada, Murcia). Genuinely British-built and backed by strong UK dealer support.
Shoprider
Shoprider and its UK sister brand Roma Shoprider are owned and manufactured by Pihsiang Machinery MFG. in Taiwan. The two lines cater to slightly different needs but both focus on comfort, reliability, and practical everyday use.
Sterling / Sunrise Medical
Sterling is a premium brand owned by global healthcare group Sunrise Medical, known for its German engineering heritage. The Elite 2, Little Gem 2, S400, Pearl, and Trophy models all sit at the comfort-focused end of the market. Prices reflect the positioning, but the ride quality is noticeably better than most competitors at the same specification.
TGA Mobility
TGA is genuinely British-built, manufactured in Suffolk, and one of the most respected premium brands in the UK. The Breeze range of roadworthy scooters has a near-cult following for long-range touring. The Vita family covers class 3 variants from entry-level (Vita E) to flagship (Vita X and Vita S). The Minimo folding scooters and Zest pavement range round out a comprehensive catalogue. Prices are at the higher end, but build quality and UK aftersales are excellent.
Tzora
Tzora Mobility is an Israeli company producing very light, compact scooters, with the Featherlite as the best-known UK model. Sold through specialist dealers.
Van Os Medical
Van Os Medical is a Dutch company with UK operations. The Galaxy II roadworthy scooter and the Travelux Tiempo portable are the most visible models on the UK market. Some assembly takes place in the UK. The Excel sub-brand sits under the same corporate umbrella.
Veleco
Veleco is a Polish brand producing larger, often road-style electric scooters. UK presence is growing but the dealer network remains small compared to the established names. Best suited to buyers who have done their research and know exactly what they want.
Vermeiren
Vermeiren is a Belgian mobility manufacturer with a diverse UK range, distributed through healthcare channels rather than mainstream retailers. Better known in clinical settings than the consumer market.
How to choose between mobility scooter brands
Three factors tend to matter more than brand name itself:
Dealer network. A brand with a local dealer who can collect, repair, and return your scooter within a week is worth more than a marginally better spec from a brand whose nearest dealer is 90 miles away. Before you buy, check how far your nearest approved dealer is.
Parts availability. Batteries, tyres, and controllers wear out on every scooter. Large established brands like Pride, Drive, Kymco, TGA, and Rascal have parts in stock across hundreds of UK dealers. Smaller brands and importers can mean longer waits and higher costs.
Warranty terms. Read what the warranty covers before you buy. Some UK-assembled brands offer engineer home visits as standard. Some overseas brands want the scooter shipped back, which is impractical for the customer and expensive for the dealer.
Budget and model specification matter too, of course, but those are features of individual models rather than the brand. Our scooter finder quiz helps narrow down models based on how you will actually use the scooter.

Frequently asked questions
What is the most reliable mobility scooter brand in the UK?
TGA, Kymco, Pride, and Roma Medical are consistently rated among the most reliable brands sold in the UK. Reliability depends more on the specific model and maintenance than the brand name alone, but these four have long track records and strong UK parts networks.
Which mobility scooter brands are made in the UK?
TGA (Suffolk), Roma Medical (Bridgend, Wales), Kymco Healthcare (Wigan), Horizon Mobility (Tewkesbury), One Rehab, and Quingo all manufacture or assemble some models in the UK. Electric Mobility (Rascal), Freerider, and Van Os Medical also carry out UK assembly for parts of their range.
What is the best mobility scooter brand for heavy users?
For users needing higher weight capacities, Green Power (particularly the ZT4), TGA (Breeze range), Pride (Maxima 4 and Ranger), and Freerider (Land Ranger series) all offer models rated to 25 stone (160kg) or more. Check the specific model’s weight capacity rather than assuming the brand’s flagship applies across the range.
Are cheaper mobility scooter brands any good?
Some are; some aren’t. Budget brands sold by reputable UK retailers — CareCo’s Abilize range, Dream, and the unbranded models from 1st Step Mobility — usually offer fair value for light everyday use. Very cheap imports sold only online with no UK dealer support are riskier: when something breaks, you may struggle to get parts.
Which mobility scooter brand has the best warranty?
TGA and Pride both offer comprehensive warranties with engineer home visits as standard on most models. Kymco’s warranty is also well-regarded, particularly on the K-Lite range. Always check the specific warranty terms for the model you are buying — brand-level warranties can vary by model.
Can I get a mobility scooter from a British manufacturer?
Yes. Confirmed British-built brands include TGA (Suffolk), Roma Medical (Wales), Horizon Mobility (Gloucestershire), One Rehab, and Quingo. Several other brands — Kymco Healthcare, Electric Mobility, Freerider, and Van Os Medical — carry out significant UK assembly. See the brand list above for details on where each is made.
